Prospective students will submit a petition to the Medieval Studies Core Faculty after having completed half (6 credit hours) of their coursework toward the minor.
1) In this petition, the student will describe their prior study in the field and outline their future course work, addressing specifically their
a) facility with scholarly languages (including plan to complete the Latin requirement)
b) knowledge of primary texts (traditional and uncanonical)
c) use of interdisciplinary methods
d) and familiarity with relevant critical conversations.
2) They will explain how the coursework completed for the Medieval Studies Graduate Minor coheres with their scholarly agenda and/or career plans.
When the student makes their petition, the Core Faculty will ascertain whether they are in good academic standing with their home department by having the chair of the student’s home department “sign off” on it.
